That drill has seen more action in the last couple weeks than it ever has before

Last weekend Timmy and I were busy in the nursery, and we are so happy with the results of our hard work! We now have a room that actually looks like the beginnings of a nursery, not just a room with a crib. The biggest job was hanging Jane’s new book shelves. Timmy’s dad, Tim built them for us. He did a great job, we love them!! Thank you Tim!! You know what this means, right? The requests are only going to increase from here on out. Hope you’re ready!

We attempted to stain them to match the rest of the furniture last weekend, but that didn’t work. They were more red than cherry and they just didn’t look right. So, we went with the back-up plan and painted them white. I think they look even better than cherry would have! Since neither Timmy or I are all that handy or knowledgeable, every project we attempt is an adventure. Let’s just say some adventures are more fun than others. But once these were painted, and we settled on a hanging method, everything went pretty smoothly. They are nice and sturdy, not to mention they look so colorful and fun on the wall!

Timmy also hung up the hardware for the new curtains we picked up at Ikea. I know they come across in pictures as having dragonflies on them, but they actually have trees with little birds perched on some of the branches. Which goes along with the sort of theme I am implementing at the last minute. I didn’t really think we needed a theme, but I have a few birdie elements that coordinate so far, so I’m just kind of going with it. I’m glad I didn’t pick that from the beginning or I might have gone overboard. As it is, the theme is subtle and cute!

Finally, we rolled out the rug my mom helped us pick. WOW – You can definitely tell a girl is moving in there now! PINK!! I layered a little sheepskin rug in front of the crib for some added texture. Now we just need the rocker (ordered last weekend also) and the room will practically look finished. Well, not quite. I still have a good number of projects up my sleeve. A couple that may make their way in there this week/weekend.

We can’t wait to start reading all these fun books to our Lady Jane!

Fortunately, Timmy said that the work we did last weekend was fun. Considering some of our previous frustrations, this is a pretty big deal. He also pointed out that Jane now has the best room in the house, and it’s not even finished. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be, but it also makes me feel motivated to work on other rooms in the house. So one at a time we’ll slowly work our way through and bring the rest of the house up to Jane’s high standards. This could be a grand new adventure for us, having a baby and making over the house together! We’ll see how long the “fun” lasts. For now, we’ve got a pretty great nursery in the works!

Love these! How far apart did you hang them?

Thanks! They are 18″ apart. We picked that distance kind of arbitrarily because it was an even distance from where we wanted the top shelf to be, but it ended up being perfect.
