Spring Time Tea

March 29, 2012

Little known fact about me – I collect antique tea cups. Part of the reason this is so little known is that my collection has been tucked away in my cedar chest for about 8 years or more. I just never had the right place to display them. Well, I was trying to decorate for spring without spending money (see yesterday’s Magnolia Tree Post) and I remembered my tea cups. They’re perfect for spring decorating because they’re all painted with beautiful spring flowers! Finally, my tea cups have a place!

These tea cups in particular were a gift from my grandmother’s husband, Max. When his wife (not my grandmother) passed away he inherited them, and since he has all boys he wasn’t sure what to do with them. Then he found out I collect antique tea cups and they had a new home. Isn’t he a nice guy!? I am so happy to add them to my small collection, especially since they are so unique and beautiful! The tea pot was a wedding shower gift from a woman/friend at my parents’ church, where I grew up. She didn’t know I collected, but thought I might like it. What a happy coincidence, and a thoughtful gift!

I’m not sure about the value of my collection, I’ve never looked into it. My primary concern is whether they’re old and whether they are special in some way. I don’t remember how it started either, maybe I saw one in an antique shop and fell in love? Regardless, I really love my collection and hope someday to have a small tea party and actually use them… Anyone interested?

That looks so pretty. I can picture tea sandwiches and hats. The linens are really lovely too!
