Making Spirits Bright

December 15, 2011

The holiday season is a perfect time for playing bartender and trying out some new recipes. Of course, we could drink wine or beer while we trim the tree or at our holiday parties, and that would be great, but it’s so much fun to have a special little surprise for your guests or your family too. The first toddy I present to you is a classic – The Winter Wonderland. Combine one packet of Swiss Miss hot cocoa with 6 oz. of water (the usual amount) and a shot of Kahlua. Delicious! Alternatively, a shot of peppermint Schnapps would also be yummy.

The second drink is cold, and so, so good! This one is called Holiday Cheer. In case you’re wondering, yes, I am making these names up haha…  To make this delicious concoction, add 2 parts Frangelico, 1 part Bailey’s, 1 part amaretto liquor ( I used Disaronno), and ice to a shaker. Shake and strain into martini glass. If desired, you could also add a splash of cream but it really doesn’t need it. I brought a bottle of this to a party last weekend and it was a hit! If you have never tried Frangelico, it’s soooo good. Perhaps I’ll have a new recipe including this tasty libation for the new year…

I hope you enjoy these yummy holiday spirits!
